All of Your Refractive Options
We will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each treatment option available and help you decide what is best for you. Above all, we want to help you make a well informed decision.
We Start With a Comprehensive Eye Exam
Orthokeratology at Total Eye Care starts with a comprehensive eye exam where we will determine how nearsighted you are and check the health of your eyes. With the eye exam complete we now need to find out more about your eyes and perform special diagnostic tests that further help us evaluate the health of your cornea. The first instrument evaluates the health of your cornea. It is called a specular microscope. The second instrument provides detailed corneal shape information and is called a corneal topographer. With this information your eye doctor will design a contact lens for you. All Orthokeratology lenses are custom designed and generally take 7-10 days to fabricate.
Wearing Your New Lenses
When the lens arrives a contact lens tech will verify the lens parameters and call you to schedule a time to show you how to insert, remove and take care of your new Gentle Vision Shaping retainers. The your OrthoKeratology doctor will evaluate the lenses on your eyes to ensure that they are fitting as expected and send you home with instructions to wear them overnight and return the next day.
Ongoing Care
On day 1 you will typically notice marked improvement in your vision but the effect may not be 100% complete. The doctor will check your vision and see how your eyes are responding to the treatment. The number of visits following the receipt of your corneal molds will depend on how your eye responds. Once the initial treatment is complete you will probably be asked to return in 3 to 6 months.
